VDI Device Not Found (Windows 365)
Overview
When attempting to connect to a Windows 365 Cloud PC, users may encounter the error "VDI device not found." This typically means the local device or remote resource cannot locate the expected virtual desktop environment.
Problem Statement
Users were unable to connect to their Cloud PC and received "VDI device not found" during connection.
Common Causes
- The Cloud PC has not been provisioned or enrolled properly (device not registered in Azure AD/Intune).
- Network connectivity issues blocking access to the Cloud PC or Azure endpoints.
- Misconfigured Azure AD, Intune, or user account settings (trust/registration problems).
- An expired or missing Windows 365 Cloud PC license.
Troubleshooting Steps
Follow these steps on the affected device:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
- Select the connected work or school account, then click Info.
- Click Sync, then restart the device to apply the changes.
Note
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, the Cloud PC may need to be reprovisioned. Reprovisioning (resetting the Cloud PC via the Windows 365 portal) will rebuild the device and re-register it in Azure AD and Intune, which often clears persistent "VDI device not found" errors.
